# 9 Biggest CDN Providers by Market Share and Network Size (2026)

 Vadym Borovskyi Oct 4, 2026, 9:04:00 AM

![](https://blog.blazingcdn.com/hubfs/Gemini-Blog/image-Oct-04-2026-07-00-33-2404-AM.jpeg)

By every public yardstick, the biggest CDN providers in 2026 are Akamai, Cloudflare and Amazon CloudFront, followed by Google, Microsoft and Fastly. Each one leads on a different meter. Akamai reported $3.99 billion in total revenue for 2024. Cloudflare reported $1.67 billion and sits in front of roughly one in five websites (public web surveys, 2025). No neutral party publishes byte-level traffic share.

This article covers nine providers. For each one it gives the network size the provider states, how it makes money, a guide to reading market-share claims, a workload decision matrix and cost math at 100 TB a month. Evaluated October 2026, list prices as checked August 2026.

Akamai, Cloudflare and Amazon CloudFront are the three largest CDN providers in 2026, and each leads on a different measure. Akamai leads on revenue ($3.99 billion in 2024, across security, delivery and compute). Cloudflare leads on websites served (about 20% of all sites in 2025 surveys). CloudFront is the default CDN of the largest public cloud and states 600+ points of presence (PoPs).

## **Which are the biggest CDN providers in 2026?**

The nine biggest CDN providers in 2026 are Akamai, Cloudflare, Amazon CloudFront, Google Cloud CDN and Media CDN, Microsoft Azure Front Door, Fastly, Gcore, bunny.net and KeyCDN. Rows 1 to 6 are ordered by public revenue and adoption signals. Rows 7 to 9 are private companies, ordered by the network footprint each one states.

| Provider | Billing model | Share signal (dated) | Network size as stated by provider |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| 1. Akamai | Quote-based contracts, committed spend | $3.99B revenue (2024), largest by revenue | 4,100+ PoPs in 130+ countries |
| 2. Cloudflare | Flat plans plus Enterprise contracts | About 20% of all websites (2025); $1.67B revenue (2024) | 330+ cities in 125+ countries |
| 3. Amazon CloudFront | Per GB plus request fees, or flat-rate plans | Default AWS CDN; revenue not disclosed | 600+ PoPs plus regional edge caches |
| 4. Google Cloud CDN / Media CDN | Per GB plus requests | Revenue not disclosed | Media CDN runs on YouTube's edge; no single PoP count |
| 5. Microsoft Azure Front Door | Base fee plus per GB plus requests | Revenue not disclosed | Well over 100 edge locations |
| 6. Fastly | Usage plus commits | About $544M revenue (2024) | Roughly 90 to 100 large POPs (estimate) |
| 7. Gcore | Per GB plans | Private | 180+ PoPs |
| 8. bunny.net | Pay-as-you-go per GB | Private | About 120 PoPs |
| 9. KeyCDN | Pay-as-you-go, priced by region | Private | Roughly 60 PoPs (estimate) |

Only three of the nine disclose revenue, so any single "market share" percentage for this group is an estimate, not a measurement.

**Where BlazingCDN fits:** BlazingCDN is a pay-as-you-go CDN for high-volume video, downloads and images, priced from $5 per TB down to $2.50 per TB with one rate in the US, Europe and Asia; 100 TB costs $415 a month (as of October 2026). Its prices against every major CDN are on the [CDN pricing comparison](https://blazingcdn.com/vs/) page.

## **How is CDN providers market share measured?**

CDN providers market share is measured three incompatible ways: by websites served, by revenue, or by bytes delivered. Each meter crowns a different leader. Cloudflare wins on websites, and Akamai wins on revenue. Bytes delivered is never published neutrally, so any single percentage claim hides a methodology choice that you should ask about.

The gap between the meters is large. In 2024 Akamai's revenue was about 2.4 times Cloudflare's ($3.99B against $1.67B). Cloudflare, however, fronts far more websites, because its free and $25 plans pull in millions of small sites that each generate little traffic. Hyperscaler CDNs blur the picture further, since Amazon, Google and Microsoft bundle CDN revenue into cloud segments.

Use this rule when you read a share claim. Website share tells you about ecosystem and tooling familiarity. Revenue share tells you about enterprise contract weight. Neither one tells you who carries the most video bytes, which is the number that matters for an egress bill. Share figures that circulate without a stated meter, including the "74% for the top three" figure once common in roundups, should not drive a decision.

### Why PoP counts are not comparable

Akamai counts thousands of small clusters embedded inside ISP networks. Cloudflare counts cities, each running its full stack. Fastly runs fewer, larger POPs by design and relies on high cache density per site. CloudFront mixes full PoPs with lightweight embedded PoPs and a regional cache tier. Cache-hit ratio, peering depth, tiered caching and origin shielding usually affect p95 latency and origin load more than the location count does.

## **List of biggest CDN companies and how each makes money**

### Akamai

Akamai is strongest in large-scale live events, media delivery and enterprise security, and security is now its largest revenue line. In 2024 it absorbed customer contracts from both the StackPath CDN exit and the Edgio bankruptcy. Limitation: no published CDN price list, so cost comparison requires an RFP.

### Cloudflare

Cloudflare sells subscriptions across CDN, WAF, Workers, R2 and Zero Trust, with a flat plan ladder up to Enterprise. Its breadth on security and edge compute is unmatched in this list. Limitation: Enterprise pricing is quote-based and widely reported to start near $5,000 a month.

### Amazon CloudFront

CloudFront earns usage revenue inside AWS bills, and it now also offers flat-rate plans (Business at $200 for 50 TB, Premium from $1,000). Origin traffic from S3 and other AWS origins is tightly integrated. Limitation: the pay-as-you-go option adds request fees and regional rate differences on top of transfer.

### Google Cloud CDN and Media CDN

Media CDN runs on the same edge that serves YouTube, which makes it a strong option for large video libraries already in GCP. Limitation: at 200 TB a month, pay-as-you-go Cloud CDN costs about $10,500 (published price lists, checked August 2026).

### Microsoft Azure Front Door

Azure Front Door combines CDN, global load balancing and WAF for Azure-hosted applications. Limitation: published rates reach 150 TB, where the month costs about $9,500 (published price lists, checked August 2026).

### Fastly

Fastly is known for purge in the range of 150 ms, VCL-level control and Compute at the edge, which suits e-commerce and API caching. Limitation: its published rate card stops near 20 TB, where the month costs $2,087, so volume pricing is negotiated.

### Gcore, bunny.net and KeyCDN

These three compete on price per TB rather than platform breadth. Gcore pairs its CDN with edge cloud and inference, bunny.net offers a low-cost Volume network, and KeyCDN keeps billing simple. Limitations, in order: list pricing near EUR 2,000 at 100 TB, regional pricing on bunny.net's Standard network, and KeyCDN Asia rates double its US and EU rates.

## **Top CDN providers ranked by cost at 100 TB a month**

At 100 TB a month, the largest providers are rarely the cheapest for cacheable static traffic. The table orders providers by total monthly cost from published price lists, checked August 2026. Akamai and Cloudflare Enterprise are excluded because they are quote-based.

| Provider | Cost at 100 TB/month | Billing model | Honest limitation |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| BlazingCDN | $415 | Progressive tiers, one global rate, no request fees | No HTTP/3, WebSockets, WAF or DDoS mitigation |
| bunny.net | $500 Volume / $1,000 Standard | Per GB | Volume network has a smaller footprint |
| CDN77 | $990 | Plan covering up to 250 TB | Plan pricing wastes headroom at 100 TB |
| Amazon CloudFront | From $1,000 Premium; $6,965 pay as you go | Flat plan, or per GB plus requests | Pay-as-you-go figure covers transfer only |
| Gcore | About EUR 2,000 at list | Per GB plans | List price usually negotiated down |
| KeyCDN | $2,600 NA/EU; $5,200 into Asia | Per GB, regional rates | Asia traffic doubles the bill |

At 100 TB a month the spread between the cheapest and the most expensive published option is more than 15 times, which outweighs most performance differences for cacheable objects.

BlazingCDN publishes this blog, so verify this ranking on your own traffic; the 14-day testing period exists for that purpose.

As of October 2026, BlazingCDN prices delivery from $5 per TB down to $2.50 per TB at volume on progressive tiers, with one rate for the US, Europe and Asia and no request fees. Under that pricing, 100 TB a month costs $415 and 200 TB costs $765. Current rates are on the [**BlazingCDN CDN pricing page**](https://blazingcdn.com/pricing/).

At 200 TB the same pattern holds. CloudFront costs $3,500 on Premium or $11,965 pay as you go for transfer alone, and KeyCDN runs $3,600 to $11,200 depending on the continent. For teams moving heavy files off AWS, the [**BlazingCDN vs Amazon CloudFront comparison**](https://blazingcdn.com/vs/aws-cloudfront/) sets the two billing models side by side.

BlazingCDN measured 24 ms and 1.11 Gb/s in North America on a 100 MB HTTPS download (measured June 2026). It is a delivery layer, not a peer of Cloudflare or Akamai in platform breadth. Below about 46 TB a month, CloudFront Business ($200 for 50 TB) or Cloudflare Pro ($25) can cost less.

## **Best CDN provider by workload: decision matrix**

Size predicts platform breadth, not fit. The matrix below maps common workloads to the provider whose strengths match them. Where a large provider is genuinely stronger, it comes first.

| Workload | Best fit | Why |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Tier-1 live sports and events | Akamai; Google Media CDN | ISP-embedded capacity for sudden concurrency peaks |
| SaaS with edge logic and WAF | Cloudflare; Fastly | Edge compute and security in one control plane |
| E-commerce with frequent purges | Fastly | Purge in about 150 ms and surrogate-key control |
| Cloud-native apps on one provider | CloudFront, Azure Front Door or Cloud CDN | IAM, logging and origin integration with the host cloud |
| VOD libraries, software installers, game patches above 100 TB | BlazingCDN; bunny.net | Lowest published cost per TB, objects up to 50 GB on BlazingCDN |
| Multi-CDN | Cloudflare or Fastly in front, a volume CDN for heavy files | Security stays on the full platform, while bytes move to cheaper capacity |

Most high-volume teams end up splitting by workload: a broad platform for dynamic and security-sensitive traffic, and a cost-led CDN behind weighted DNS for large static files.

## **What changed among CDN providers in 2025 and 2026**

Consolidation is the clearest shift. StackPath exited CDN and Edgio went bankrupt, and Akamai took on customer contracts from both, so neither belongs on a current list. Flat-rate pricing has spread too, with CloudFront now selling plans alongside per-GB billing. Edge compute is standard across Workers, Fastly Compute, CloudFront Functions and EdgeWorkers. Inference is moving into edge PoPs at Cloudflare, Akamai and Gcore. Some enterprise RFPs now also ask for emissions reporting.

## **How to choose among the top CDN providers**

- Shortlist three providers: one large platform, one cloud-native option and one cost-led CDN.
- Replay representative objects (segments, installers, images) for seven days from 15 to 20 regions.
- Compare time to first byte (TTFB), p50 and p99 latency, throughput on files over 100 MB, and cache-hit ratio at the edge and at the shield.
- Divide the real invoice, including request fees, by delivered TB to get effective cost per TB.

## **FAQ: biggest CDN providers and market share**

### Who is the biggest CDN provider by market share in 2026?

No single provider wins on every meter. Akamai is the biggest CDN provider by revenue, with $3.99 billion in 2024. Cloudflare is the biggest by websites served, at about 20% of all sites in 2025 surveys. Amazon CloudFront leads among cloud-bundled CDNs. Byte-level traffic share is not published neutrally, so rankings depend on which meter a source uses.

### What is the list of biggest CDN companies?

The list of biggest CDN companies in 2026 is Akamai, Cloudflare, Amazon CloudFront, Google Cloud CDN and Media CDN, Microsoft Azure Front Door, Fastly, Gcore, bunny.net and KeyCDN. The first six lead on revenue or adoption signals. The last three are private and are ranked here by the network footprint each one states.

### How many PoPs do the biggest CDN providers have?

Stated footprints vary widely. Akamai states 4,100+ PoPs, Cloudflare 330+ cities, Amazon CloudFront 600+ PoPs, Gcore 180+ and bunny.net about 120. The counts are not comparable, because some vendors count small ISP-embedded clusters and others count full-stack sites. Cache-hit ratio and peering affect real latency more than the location count.

### Are the biggest CDN providers the cheapest for high-volume video delivery?

Usually not for cacheable static video above 100 TB a month. Published price lists checked August 2026 put Amazon CloudFront at $6,965 pay as you go for 100 TB of transfer. As of October 2026, BlazingCDN costs $415 for the same volume. Large platforms justify their price with security and edge compute rather than raw delivery.

### Why do CDN providers market share estimates disagree?

They measure different things: websites using a CDN, vendor revenue, or traffic volume. Cloudflare dominates website counts because of its low-cost plans, while Akamai dominates revenue through enterprise contracts. Hyperscalers bundle CDN revenue into cloud segments. Any share percentage without a stated methodology should be treated as an estimate.

## **Run a three-CDN bake-off before your next renewal**

This week, export one week of CDN logs and sort traffic by object size and content type. If more than half your bytes are video segments, installers or game builds, price that slice separately at your real monthly volume. Then replay it against three providers from 15 regions and track p99 TTFB, throughput on 100 MB objects and the effective cost per TB taken from the invoice. That split usually shows whether you are paying platform prices for commodity bytes.

If the heavy-file slice is large, BlazingCDN offers a [**14-day testing period on real production traffic**](https://blazingcdn.com/sign-up-contact-form/) at $5 per TB with the monthly minimum waived. You can run it as a second CDN behind a weighted DNS split.

Cloudflare is the biggest by websites served, at about 20% of all sites in 2025 surveys. Amazon CloudFront leads among cloud-bundled CDNs. Byte-level traffic share is not published neutrally, so rankings depend on which meter a source uses."

Cloudflare dominates website counts because of its low-cost plans, while Akamai dominates revenue through enterprise contracts. Hyperscalers bundle CDN revenue into cloud segments. Any share percentage without a stated methodology should be treated as an estimate."
